Spreading the CMV Message: Getting the Attention of Providers and Pregnant Women

Pregnant women and providers who serve pregnant women have provento be achallenging to reach with CMV messaging.In part, this is due to the ample information pregnant women are inundated with and thecautiousness providers have in the recommendations they give to their patients. This presentation will draw on the expertise of staff from the Genetic Alliance who run multiple campaigns including Expecting Health and Baby’s First Test that target pregnant women and the providers who serve them. The presenter and attendees will have the opportunity to explore how to apply lessons learned from other campaigns to increasing awareness and prevention of CMV.

  • At the end of the presentation, participants will be able to recognize the impact of messaging on behavior.
  • At the end of the presentation, participants will be able to create clear and actionable messaging around CMV for families and health professionals.
  • At the end of the presentation, participants will be able to identify methods to increasing awareness and prevention of CMV.

As Assistant Director of Maternal and Child Health Programs, Jackie Seisman provides communications strategy, outreach efforts, and project management for Genetic Alliance’s maternal and child health initiative, Expecting Health. As a volunteer doula and with more than 8 years of experience developing messaging and educational materials for new and expecting parents, health professionals, and the public, she is passionate about providing science-based, actionable information to women and their families. Jackie has a BA in Public Administration and Political Science from Elon University and a Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
