Mathematics Programs, Data, and Adaptions: Meeting the Needs of Students Across and Within Tiers

As schools seek to increase student performance on state math assessments, the performance gap between students with and without disabilities and mathematics difficulties continues to widen. One-way schools are seeking to remediate mathematics is through providing support within MTSS. The session will first start with an overview of setting up a MTSS system, specific to mathematics. Secondly, the session will provide an overview of MTSS through the use of case studies and examples of how to incorporate mathematics evidence-based strategies such as multiple representations, student engagement, and student discussion. Additionally, participants will learn how to apply taxonomy dimensions using a data-based decision making model to identify students needing support in core instruction/Tier 1, as well as utilizing data to make changes to intervention instruction that leads to conceptual understanding, procedural fluency and positive student outcomes.

  • Define Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and identify the four essential components of the framework
  • Explain why MTSS implementation is important
  • Define the dimensions of the taxonomy of intervention intensification
