Issues Surrounding A Post-CMV Pregnancy
Many CMV families face difficult decisions when considering another pregnancy after having a child with congenital CMV (cCMV). They often experience emotional trauma and grief from their experience with cCMV, and worry about long-term effects on a subsequent pregnancy. In addition, many families want to be certain that it is medically safe to have another baby, and they may experience unnecessary fears due to misinformation.
This presentation will focus on the experience of several CMV Moms who have overcome these obstacles to have a post CMV baby.
- Gain knowledge and resolve misunderstandings about the medical issues surrounding a post CMV pregnancy
- Learn from the experiences of families who have given birth to another baby after their CMV child was born.
- Understand the emotional obstacles and fears surrounding a post CMV pregnancy and how families have overcome these concerns.

Farah Armstrong has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. She has 10 years of working experience as a mechanical engineer for BP in Houston and FMC Technologies in Singapore. Farah is a co-founder of National CMV Foundation and is currently serving as the Chair of the Education and Programming Committee. She lives in Houston, Texas with her husband, Patrick, and children, Sophie and William. Farah's passion for CMV Awareness is in loving memory of her daughter, Madeline Leigh, who passed away in 2014 due to congenital CMV.

Kathleen Muldoon

Dr. Muldoon received her PhD (Anthropology) from Washington University in St. Louis. She is Associate Professor of Anatomy at Midwestern University, Glendale, AZ. Dr. Muldoon maintains several distinct areas of scholarly research, including anatomy education with interest in the effectiveness of teaching innovations on public health knowledge. Her research interests include evaluating methods for prevention of congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection through professional education, and promotion of CMV awareness and behavioral interventions in the community.

Kim Hill

Kim Hill is the mother of 4 and lives in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her 10 year old daughter has bilateral sensorineural hearing loss due to CMV and has cochlear implants. Kim is passionate about CMV education and advocacy work and is a community alliance chair member for the National CMV Foundation. She also works as a parent educator for the North Carolina Division of Public Health teaching leadership and advocacy skills to parents across the state through the Parents as Collaborative Leaders Program. Kim is the board secretary for the Patient and Family Advisory Board at UNC Children’s Hospital. She has a degree in sociology from Utah State University.
