15th ANNUAL EARLY HEARING DETECTION & INTERVENTION MEETING
March 13-15, 2016 • San Diego, CA
3/15/2016 | 3:45 PM - 4:15 PM | Topical Session 8 | Sunset | 9 - Program Evaluation and Quality Improvement
Multi-vehicular Pile-ups on the EHDI Information Superhighway
EHDI information systems have been critical in measuring the successes of newborn hearing screening programs and for identification and follow-up of children needing additional testing, as well as for identifying areas for program improvement. However data systems are only as good as the data being entered and the ability of the users and the systems to analyze these data. Some of the many potential problems with EHDI data will be presented. This session will use multiple real life examples of problems and solutions, with cases presented ranging from minor “fender benders,” such as similarly named twins causing file matching errors and common data entry errors, to the program disruptive “multi-vehicular pile-ups,” such as missing data on thousands of records. Potential strategies to prevent or mitigate data disasters will be discussed. Attendees are encouraged to come prepared with their own examples of data problems to share and to be prepared to brainstorm data quality assurance strategies.
- Describe at least two potential pitfalls of algorithms for matching of records using child’s name.
- Identify at least one mechanism to monitor for missing data and resolve problems.
- Design a report to identify common data entry errors.
