Making of 'Louder Than Words' - the documentary film on the cochlear implant
Louder than Words is a documentary of cochlear implantation unlike any other. This film, seven years in the making, shows the story of two families and their path to hearing loss diagnosis, implantation and rehabilitation.This presentation will cover the personal journey for the Director of Louder than Words. The presentation will include poignant video clips from the documentary and personal narratives from the Director, Saj Adibs
and Producer , Lyra Repplinger.
- Participants will identify the benefits for documenting the hearing loss journey.
- Participants will gain knowledge about the cochlear implant evaluation process.
- Participants will identify parental concerns in choosing a cochlear implant for their child.

Saj Adibs is the founder of New Slate Films, a Chicago based video production company. Prior to founding the company, he has worked as a director and director of photography both in Chicago and around the country. He has been hired as a director and consultant by nearly every production company in the Chicagoland area. He has overseen projects for clients such as Clorox, Wrigley, Mars, Dell, Hyatt, Starwood and Sears, just to name a few. He also directed the documentary Louder Than Words that has received national attention and will premiere in April 2016 at the Wisconsin Film Festival.
Saj has recently won the industry prestiges Telly award and the 2015 Aurora award for excellence in directing.

Lyra Repplinger

Lyra Repplinger, M.S., received her Bachelors Degree in Communication Sciences from Augustana College and her Masters in Deaf Education from Illinois State University. Lyra is a teacher of the deaf who specialized in the birth to three population for over 10 years. She was the Early Intervention Coordinator of Child’s Voice School from 2003-2008 and the Co-Director of the Cochlear Implant Program at the University of Chicago from 2008-2011. She began her position as a Consumer Outreach Manager with MED-EL Corporation in 2013.
