Parent Support for Deaf/ Hard of Hearing Plus Children
Come talk with and learn from two Guide By Your Sides (GBYS), who have Deaf/Hard of Hearing (D/HH) Plus Children. Understating the need to have D/HH Parent Guides to help families navigate the journey of having children with complex medical diagnosis on top of a hearing loss.
Having a child with more than one diagnosis can daunting and overwhelming. Medical terminology is a whole new language, and having the correct resources and supports are vital to successfully navigating this new world.
Parents with children who have complex needs are constantly having to prioritize the needs of their child, conquering one health complication at a time.
Sometimes a hearing loss diagnosis may fall to the back burner when dealing with other life threatening diagnosis. It's important to have someone who can empathize and encourage follow-up for services.
You will walk away with a new understanding of the life of a D/HH parent, and with new ways to help support them so they can be the best advocate for their child.
- Understanding the GBYS System
- Acknowledging Additional Needs with Special Needs Children
- Understanding the need for having Deaf/HH Plus resources for families
