Ethical Complexities of Confidentiality for Working with Domestic Violence Populations (E) (TF)
The key to connecting is viewing every situation as a learning opportunity. In this workshop, we will combine our different skills and identify ways to increase our therapeutic power by utilizing peer support, transparency and collaboration. In turn, we will become more confident in our ability to connect on a deeper level with our clients to enhance healing from traumatic experiences.
- Identify key components to establish and improve the therapeutic alliance with Domestic Violence clients.
- Increase collaboration and empowerment with even the most difficult clients and be equipped with strategies in coming full circle with the client, thus reaching a point of understanding through trauma informed practices.
- Discover barriers that may inhibit a positive therapeutic relationship and learn strategies to connect with the individual confidently even when potential cultural, historical or counter-transference issues may arise.

Jana Fulmer

Jana holds master’s degrees in criminal justice and Forensic Science and worked as a crime scene investigator specializing in domestic violence homicides and as a community safety evaluator before returning for an additional graduate degree to become a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor. She has served on executive boards and worked closely with various coalitions and associations within our domestic violence treatment community and, along with Martha Burkett-Fallis, founded the non-profit agency Amethyst Center for Healing. She currently serves as the President-Elect for the UADVT and is on the board of directors for the UDVC. When Jana's not working she enjoys spending time with 300 pounds of fluffy dogs, a couple of cats, attending Comic Cons, gaming and traveling.

Martha Burkett-Fallis

Martha worked as a children’s advocate before pursuing her Master of Social Work. As an advocate and Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Martha has been involved with Domestic Violence advocacy and treatment since 2002. She has been a lead therapist, clinical director, and hospital administrator. She has served on executive boards and worked closely with various coalitions and associations within our domestic violence treatment community and, along with Jana Fulmer, founded the non-profit agency Amethyst Center for Healing. Martha currently serves as President for the UADVT. When she’s not working, Martha spends time belly-dancing, hiking, climbing, and camping with her family.
