Circumventing Roadblocks and Barriers

As professionals sometimes all we can see is a family who is not complying with the recommended course of action: they miss appointments, they don't respond to phone calls, they don't follow-up on therapies. Often what we don't see, and don't think of, is a family in danger of falling through the cracks because life circumstances get in the way of their success. BEGINNINGS's parent educators collaborate daily with state agencies, audiologists, and school districts to find solutions and remove those obstacles so families can get the help they so desperately need. Find out how we utilize the resources we have to connect families with the resources they need. We know financial, cultural and transportation issues top the list of barriers families face. But they are not the only barriers. Family dynamics, mental health issues, and a lack of education and understanding are challenges that require a delicate approach. Our parent educators develop close, personal relationships with the families we serve in North Carolina. Once we build a relationship on a foundation of trust, we are able ensure families know how to help their children attain success and reach their full potential.

  • Recognize when a family encounters circumstances that prohibit them from following through on diagnostics or recommended therapies
  • Learn how to find resources local to families to help them navigate their way to success
  • Empower families to continue to use these tools, unsupported
