Whitetail and Mule Deer and Elk...Oh My! Getting Wild with Wildlife Management.
Wildlife management is critically important in managing our agricultural lands. This is true whether you are managing wildlife for hunting purposes, attempting to control the effects they have on your crops, or running domestic livestock in conjunction with native species. Workshop participants will learn about the different levels of wildlife management and some of the methods used. They will also participate in hands-on activities that model wildlife population sampling, competition between animal populations, and aging of deer jaws, all of which correlate to NALO T.1.b, T.1.d, and T.5.a.. Participants will also receive additional classroom wildlife activities.

Mary Beth Bauer has used her degree in Rangeland Ecology from Texas A&M University in teaching high school science in both public and private schools for the last 34 years. She teaches AP Environmental Science, AP Biology, Environmental Systems, and Chemistry and has taught introductory ag as well. She also has successfully coached 4-H Plant Identification teams for over 30 years. She and her husband ranch and farm, raising commercial Hereford cattle, Rambouillet sheep, and hay. Her son works in the cattle industry as a breed improvement specialist and her daughter is a middle school teacher. She lives in central Texas, in the Hill Country, where hunting is the primary industry. Mary Beth was fortunate to be the Texas Ag in the Classroom Teacher of the Year in 2018-19 and attended her first NAITC workshop in Little Rock.
