Creating AgArt Curriculum for the Classrooms of the Future
Explore new ways to expand creativity with students by integrating agriculture and art into science based activities. Teachers
will learn techniques for building a school garden, connecting with the community, and capitalizing on resources available in our
state. Join in for small group fun with hands-on experiences that celebrates bringing composting, planting, harvesting, cooking,

Heather Giger of Hattiesburg, Mississippi is a seventeen year public school teaching veteran with the Lamar County School District. She resides in the Oak Grove area with her husband, Will, and two daughters. After a decade of teaching language arts and gifted education classes at the elementary level, Heather decided to combine her work in teaching with her passion for art and love of farming. When an art position became available in her school, Heather approached her principal with the concept of creating a new position known as Ag Art. Since then, Heather has become a pioneer of a new elementary curriculum that differentiates learning by interweaving the fourth and fifth grade objectives of science and agriculture with visual arts standards. Heather currently serves over 750 fourth and fifth graders each week at Oak Grove Elementary where she facilitates learning in her classroom, kitchen, and school barn and garden.
